And Melanie does her best to both listen to her surroundings and start categorising what she can feel with the cane on the ground, what she hears, what hazards she actually has to be aware of now in a way she wasn't before. She starts to think she might be able to get the hang of it after a while, but it is still very much a relief when they actually make it back to the O&I.
