There is some sympathy to Chris's expression, but it falls away as they focus on finding the way back to town. Sometimes they stop and look around, then get an attentive, listening expression on their face before forging ahead again. It's an odd way to navigate, but it does get Chris and Sam to a spot where the trees thin out and a set of railway tracks are visible.
