Eddie nods at her questioning tone.

"It -- we never really knew what to call the monster other than 'It', because it could change shape -- lived underneath our hometown. The town was built on top of It's lair, actually. It would sleep for about a quarter century at a time, then wake up to feed... mostly on the town's children." He swallows hard, forcing himself to continue. "...Taking the shape of whatever would frighten a child the most, then killing them. It was behind a lot of terrible tragedies like the Derry Ironworks explosion. That was before our time.

"It killed my best friend's little brother. He wanted to stop the killing, stop the fear... and the rest of us wanted to help him. I think... because It fed on our fear, our belief that we could stop it also weakened it."

Eddie clears his throat. "The story is a long one, but I can try to explain... the things we went through. How we worked against It. Mike... he was our historian, the one who did the most research when we were kids. He had the most knowledge, but I'll do my best to remember it all."
