Ernest peeps once, sad and weak, as Number 6 steps up and Eddie steps away. Kit moves to the opposite side of the table, giving a sympathetic little whine. And Eddie goes to grab the first aid kit from the top of one of the high cabinets.
Eddie come back and cleans the wound, despite Ernest trying to struggle free from the stinging liquid -- surely Number 6 will also help in keeping the chick still. Then Eddie folds up a pad of gauze against the wound and winds a bandage firmly in place.
Once bandaged, Ernest gives another sad-sounding peep and nuzzles the closest of Number 6's fingers.
"I'll keep him inside the house for now. To monitor him, and also to keep from setting off any of the others," Eddie says, watching Ernest give Number 6 some affection.
"Poor Ernest," Eddie croons at the chick, "you'll be okay, though, I promise."
