Chris absorbs those words quietly, and nods. "Okay. I understand being out of whack because a bunch of bu-- a bunch of bad stuff gets thrown on ya."
Then they turn to Lou and lightly stroke at her hair, smiling at her. "Lou, sweetie, I'm gonna need a favor from you." Chris picks her up carefully, and gives her a gentle hug. "Ya gotta pass that on to your daddy. You're my only hope, Lou-wan Port-nobi," they declare in a 'serious' tone, before passing her to Sam.
Lou seems to get it, enough that she throws her arms around Sam's neck and holds on. Chris is still smiling, but there's sadness in their eyes. They wish they could comfort Sam better -- that they knew what to say, or could hug him directly when words fail. But it would hurt him, so proxy hugs from Lou will have to do.
"When I felt tired and overwhelmed by this place, talking to a good friend helped me. Sometimes... just having someone to listen makes the load lighter. And if... if that would help you, you're welcome to drop by any time. You wouldn't be intruding. My home is always open to my friends."
