Chris is inclined to agree with that take -- safety in numbers. Why else would the creature need to draw Chris away by themself? Why would it switch focus between Chris and this other guy, unless it can only focus on one person at a time? They grip his hand back and follow as best they can.

And the pair of them are nearly to the main door, nearly to safety... when Chris trips over something. Possibly their own feet.

Chris lets go, tries to catch themself and keep upright... but no such luck. They tumble to the ground and -- having picked up on that heroic streak in the new guy -- yell, "Go on, run!"

They'll be right behind him, ideally... but the Tristitia is right behind them.
