"Refresh my memory... Lou is about six months old, right? Soup is safe; the broth for sure. The barley is very soft from being cooked, and we can mash up the vegetable pieces in her portion and skip the meat if you're worried about it."

Chris will not dismiss Sam's worries, but rather gives assurances and suggests workarounds. This is because they respect Sam, and his place as Lou's parent.

Chris ladles a small portion that's mostly broth and barley into a bowl for Lou, as well as those crustless slices of bread on a plate for her. Then they serve themself, taking a seat at the table with a relaxed sigh.

"We've both had busy days lately, so I understand." Chris grins. "Any hot gossip from the locals?"
