Add to that that Bart knows how well certain microbes can live even on the most clean, smooth non-porous surfaces, and he appreciates all the more that the first thought was to wash up first.
As Bart begins to list, and in some places explain the main source of his worries, he becomes that little bit more animated, grateful to be able to speak plainly to someone that, even if they don't strictly know exactly what he's talking about in regards to the Kharaa bacterium, that they would understand what he meant when he went into detail.
First and foremost, a pulmonary system infection, occluding the lungs' ability to take in oxygen and making deeper breaths painful. Outwardly, it manifested in some cellular breakdown around weaker blood vessels, leading to periphery vascular issues and, most peculiarly, a glow that some might joke looked radioactive. That, he chalks up to a chemical reaction between the compounds of this bio-engineered bacterium and the natural chemicals produced by organic beings. He lifts a hand to explain that at one point it was visible there and up his neck and part of his face, but arriving here seems to at least changed that. But, he adds, there is still some discoloration that he's noticed, and he lifts the front of the simple tunic he'd arrived in to show, amid the obvious emaciation that he explains as a result of being unable to keep much down with the frequency and force with which he was coughing near the end, creeping black vein patterns here and there in the pale skin. There's a bit of a struggle when he's gotten a bit too energetic, and he grimaces, forcing down a cough. It wouldn't be productive after all, just painful.
