The explanation reminds Chris of locked-in syndrome, where a person is paralyzed except for the muscles that control eye movement... still conscious and aware, and able to think, but not move or speak. They can understand how any change in circumstances, even a rush job of a new body, would be an improvement.

"Hopefully, there won't be a need for a rush here," Chris says, "and I'm sure we can bring together a team who'd be able to get your body into the condition you'd prefer. The machinists would have to create new parts from scratch, probably, but they're very good at doing it to our specifications. You deserve to live in a body that doesn't hurt you."
