For now, those others are reaching for things they can try to throw at the ghosts as well -- in an attempt to keep the spectres away from Dr. West.

Mary throws her other shoe at a ghost that looked like she was going to target Kavinsky.

It's on the doctor's third incantation that something happens -- the ghosts all give an angry wail and suddenly plummet through the floor.

"I can't send them back where they came from," Dr. West says, "something is blocking me from that. So I... pushed most of them into basement and root cellar instead. It won't hold forever, but it gives us a reprieve."
