Aldo knows he can't really understand, because he's never been in a situation even close to that. The nearest he gets to fighting to survive is heated debates with some of his more traditionalist colleagues. But he knows enough about the realities of that kind of situation without experiencing them. "I'm glad you had each other. We're not meant to go it alone. Especially in situations that can break people like that." Not glad that you had him, glad you had each other. "And I haven't spoken with him long, but he seems like a good man."
He gives her a little bit of a sardonic look, then. "Like I said, I'm a priest. It's my calling to be told heavy things by people that I might not rest easy about so that they can. I knew what I was getting into when I enrolled in seminary all those years ago. No matter what people might think, especially with my lofty rank, my role is one of service.
